Choose it for

  • Functional indoor parts: brackets, housings, holders, clips
  • Things that meet water, damp or cleaning agents
  • Parts that must bend a little rather than snap
  • Replacements for a broken plastic part in a machine or appliance

Choose something else for

  • The finest surface detail: it prints slightly softer than PLA
  • Long term outdoor exposure, it yellows under UV over the seasons
  • Anywhere it will sit above about 75 C under load
  • Parts that must flex repeatedly, that is what TPU is for

How it behaves on the printer

Tougher than PLA and it sticks to itself well, which makes layers strong. It strings a little more, so fine lattices need cleaning up, and it prints slower, which shows in the price. Bridges and overhangs come out well.

Compared with the others

  • PLA Finer detail and cheaper; keep it indoors and away from heat.
  • ASA Real UV and heat resistance for outdoor parts.
  • TPU Flexible where PETG is merely tough.
